KYUEM and the current flu epidemic: Update
The results of tests on students and staff which were taken at the college on Sunday (26th July) arrived today and indicated the presence of H1N1 flu. As has been made very clear by the health authorities, this is a mild flu which at present seldom has complications, apart from in people with certain respiratory diseases and a few other medical conditions.
All students in the college were issued with leaflets about sensible quarantine and precautionary measures before they left college for the closure. As a socially responsible action, it is essential that all students and those they are in close contact with should carry out sensible self-quarantining measures in order to slow the rate of infection in the general population.
The college is allowed to reopen on Sunday evening for a Monday morning start of lessons. However any student who is showing symptoms of flu should remain at home until the symptoms have disappeared. It is also advisable to get medical advice from experts if there is a high fever or breathing problems.
Please keep checking the college website for any further updates on the situation.
